I only just noticed this thread, so I think the names of the guilty have been edited out now, so I don't know, and nor do I wish to. God Suue, really sorry you had so much grief.
I have my own concerns about the RP, this could all turn into a horrible can of worms, but I think you all know me well enough now to take what I say here the way I intend it to be taken.
Whereas I agree mostly with what you're all saying Gwen, I feel the lack of RP in org chat is a result of well, no RP chat in org channel from the people who've been members for sometime. Most of the RP chat I've been part of within SoS has, no correction, ALL of the RP chat I've experienced in SoS has been in vicinity. There is rarely any hook given in org chat for anyone to RP off.
I'm probably not making sense, so I'll give you my situation. I have pretty much given up staying IC at all around some characters, and I'm not talking about new members either (I'm one myself). Also, I've stopped pretty much thinking about my character because of it in an IC sense, because I don't RP, I'm having trouble working out Athans reactions. That is bad, that is also entirely my problem, I will sort it out.
There is little depth, little frisson, nothing other than simple 'time passing, we nod'. This is ok, most RL conversations tend to be like that after all. However, trying to develop your own character beyond small talk exchanges is kinda impossible, and probably always will be in org chat tbh. This I think is down to the 'love fest' quote earlier up, this is a really large issue to the way RP goes here. It's a pressure on anyone trying to RP something beyond simple small talk. This org is a 'love fest', unfortunately. I myself would be a bit partial to being unpleasant to ooh.. at least one character in the org

But the pressure, the imagined 'love fest' holds me back because I fear it wouldn't be taken as being IC. Does that make sense ?
Also challenging Suue in a passive aggresive way is a deeply crap thing to do. Make your minds up, leaving for tower wars is ok, but as a neutral org you would probably be better off playing your character somewhere else? There are too many mixed messages here for anyone to cut through. Personally I would be happy if the rule was 'tower wars ? NO.' At least it would be consistent. 'Intolerance of some individuals, little bit of an 'issue' ?, excellant, bring it on, lets get it going. Intolerance of specific factions ? NO.' You cannot have an org with the policy this org has and have clan haters, it just makes absolutely no sense and undermines any RP. It is very, very, hard for people to RP in a liberal organisation. Particualrly one that values tolerance to the point that it tolerates factional intolerance. Yes, yes, I know its possible, but you have to appreciate how bloody hard that is. Because, to RP having a clan hater within the org, with the policy we have, insists that the other characters must RP to have them kicked from the org. Unless your character is so fluffy it refuses to get bothered by anyones opinions, but playing that sort of role is completely beyond my ken, someone would have to explain to me how that could ever be a rewarding experience

.
The idea of a meeting to discuss 'how to RP' is completely hideous. Oh my god, I've experienced those before, and they always, always end in tears. If it doesnt, it will in my opinion just build ivory towers around certain players styles, which will end in tears further down the road. If you have the meeting, I will definitely not be attending, I'm happy at the moment, and dont want to spoil it. RP orgs can't be a completely broad churches, 'quality not quantity' indeed. So sort it out generals. Set parameters that can cause enough friction, and internal group forming to make RP possible within the org channel. Even, perhaps, creating RP events other than parties, spin some non org alts to come and bug org members even, you know what I mean ?
All we can say is lets all try to be IC more, and see what develops out of it. Talking styles, deciding what can/cannot be said in () or outside of brackets, worrying. Pulling up a player for ooc in org chat without () when a tiny piece of imagination could maybe make it IC to your perception is bad. Older org members talking about their kit, their DPS, or damage bot, not a good example is it

. You reap what you sow in RP. If we sow enough we'll enjoy RP, and wont have to wait for the next party to roll around. Its hard to RP with people you barely ever see too.
EEK! I got going a bit there heh.
